JNF Month Begins Saturday
Jewish National Fund
Month will be observed
from Saturday to Feb. 17.
During the observance,
JNF Sabbath will be
marked Feb. 2, on Tu
b'Shevat.
Traditionally, Israeli and
American Jews plant trees
in Israel on Tu b'Shevat, the
New Year of Trees.
Since the observance also
marks the 32nd anniver-
sary of the state of Israel,
several ways to celebrate
the occasions have been of-
fered by the JNF:
• To avow full solidarity
with the state of Israel in its
period of stress.
• To focus attention on
79 years of Jewish National
Fund activities in develop-
ing the land of Israel and
securing the future of the
state.
• To stress the fact that
JNF is a major contributor
in improving and maintain-
ing the quality of Israel's
environment.
• To reclaim more land
for outposts in the most vul-
nerable areas.
• To insure a Jewish
stronghold in the Galilee,
an area vital to the future
security and economic self-
sufficiency of the state. The
Galilee has only a 32 per-
cent Jewish population.
• To encourage inscrip-
tions in the honor roll of the
Jewish people — the Golden
Book in Jerusalem.
• To place another
thousand JNF Blue Boxes
in Greater Detroit and
Michigan homes.
