president of Actors' Equity
Association, a 20,000
member union, and also is
the United States represen-
tative and executive council
member of the Federation
International des Acteurs.
He is also chairman of the

Governing Council of the
American Jewish Congress,
and serves on the National
Council for the Arts, to
which he was appointed by
President Carter in 1977.
Born in Vienna, he emi-
grated with his parents to
pre-state Israel at age 13. In
1943, he joined the Habima
Theater, and a year later
helped found the Israel
Chamber Theater. He is
also a graduate of the Royal
Academy of Dramatic Art in
London.

JERUSALEM — Six stu-
dents at the Hebrew Uni-
versity of Jerusalem have
been awarded Louis
Horowitz Scholarships so
that they may continue
their studies at the univer-
sity's Baerwald School of
Social Work.
The scholarship fund was
established in honor of
Louis Horowitz, a former
leader of the American
Jewish Joint Distrubution
Committee.

claims that Israeli Defense
Minister Ezer Weizman told
Egyptian President Anwar
Sadat that Weizman wants
to settle his family in
Alexandria after he retires

According to the report,
Weizman wants to start a
huge economic enterprise in
Alexandria and further
Egyptian-Israeli relations.

Theodore Bikel Will Head National Tay-Sachs Body

PHILADELPHIA —
World-renowned actor and
folksinger Theodore Bikel
has been named honorary
chairman of the National
Tay-Sachs and Allied Dis-
eases Association.
Bikel is known to the
American public primarily
through his work in movies,
on television and on records.
He was nominated for an
Academy Award for his por-
trayal of a southern sheriff
in "The Defiant Ones," and
has appeared in such other
popular films as "My Fair
Lady" and "The Russians
Are Coming, The Russians
Are Coming."
On Broadway, he created
the role of Captain von
Trapp opposite Mary Mar-
