Black-Jewish Relations: Taking Exception
to the Concept of a New Privileged' People

Editor, The Jewish News:
Your editorial page has
always been of interest
since it seems to reflect deep
and concerning interest to
the Jewish community.
I take exception, how-
ever, to your article on Dec.
28 regarding the subject of
"The Message of Brother-
hood Often Falls on Deaf
Ears!" Have you really
asked yourself why the
many Jewish people have
become disillusioned with
the performances of black
leadership? The resentment
is well founded with the
many encounters of reverse
discrimination.
Practically all of my
friends and acquaintances
in all levels of life have the
same outburst of feeling
toward the "new privileged"
group. At all of our dis-
cussions, the topic will cen-
ter upon the black relation-
ship toward the community,
and needless to say, it is the
black group that ranks near
the bottom for "wanting"
equality.
The word equality has
different meanings to
different groups. To the
"new privileged" group
apparently this means
"we have suffered dis-
crimination in the past
and now society must pay
its debts to us." I say gar-
bage to all that.
Speaking for myself, I
never understood the real
meaning of racism until the
latter years when he so

called equal rights of the
liberal policies took place.
As an educator in the De-
troit Public Schools, it was
evident as to what was
going on in this so-called
equal rights movement. As
an illustration, up to about
10-15 years ago, promotions
were based on a competitive
written and oral examina-
tion. HoWever, when too few
of the blacks could make the
written grade it was decided
to eliminate that portion of
the test and just apply the
oral portion.
As it is now, many of the
responsible administrative
positions are manned by
inept people. As a conse-
quence, the students do not
learn and also competent
Jewish educators are de-
prived of their "equal oppor-
tunities" for promotions. I
could go on endlessly about
realities of this so-called
common decency and jus-
tice, but it ends up being
called racism and all that.
In the past, I had been a
staunch supporter of
equal treatment. How-
ever that position has
been soured by many
occurring events that
reflect the reverse dis-
crimination policies.
I may overlook covert acts
of racism toward myself but
when my son becomes a re-
cipient of the same thing I
cannot and won't accept this
present "common decency
and justice" as preached by
unrealistic people.

At the August graduation
exercise at the University of
Michigan, my son received a
doctoral degree. The Rever-
end Jessie Jackson was the
guest speaker. _A very
eloquent and effective
speaker, but behind this
facade was the true feelings
toward Jews.
You may have read his
speech in which the univer-
sal feeling toward Israel
was evident. Although he
did not say it, the bottom
line was 'to hell with 3 or 4
million Jews — we need the
oil and that's what counts!"

time off to pursue an op , or-

qualified for the position in

tiirned out to be a sham, as
the black interviewer asked
him questions about the ra-
cial composition of his pre-
sent company.

how can the Jewish leaders
deny the democratic wishes
of the Jews? The leaders are
not interested in the wishes
of its followers (and this is
not an -assumption on my
part). It is plain lip service
that will have a similar ef-
fect that occurred not too
long ago in Germany.
It happened before and
can happen again if we do
not protect our rights for
common decency and justice
for all.

must the Jewish leaders

and apologize for this or
that? The Hitler cancer in

China Backed Balfour Policy

Editor, The Jewish News -
I doubt if there are many
people who know that Chi-
na's leaders in 1918 gave
their full support to the Bal-
four Declaration.
The Chinese government
sent a letter to the president
of the Zionist movement in
Shanghai, signed by
Foreign Minister Ch'ang
Liu, which states, "I am
honored to inform you that
Chinese government sup-
ported the position of the
British government toward
the Zionist aspirations."
Benjamin Ezra, the foun-
der of the publication "Mes-
senger of Zion" in 1904 (and
which he published for 38
years) and an ardent
Zionist, received this letter
from the President of the
Chinese Republic, Sun Yat-
sen:
"I wish to express my
support to this (Zionist)
movement, which is one

movements of our time.
All lovers of democracy
cannot but support your
movement whose aim is
the re-establishment of
your wonderful and his-
toric nation. Your nation
contributed so much to
the world's civilization
and culture and she de-
serves a respected place
in the family of nations."
On the 10th anniversary
of the Balfour Declaration,
Chinese Admiral Tai Fing
wrote to Ezra: "How quickly
have passed the 10 yeara
since the Balfour Declara-
tion. I hope that you and
your colleagues will con-
tinue to work for an inde-
pendent Jewish nation. You
have a wonderful history,
and you deserve to live like
a sovereign nation and a
government."
In 1947, Dr. Sun Fu, vice
president of the Republic of
China and the son of Sun
Yat-sen, wrote to the
chairman of the political
department of the Zionist-
Revisionists in China,
Yehudit Hesser, "I wish to
note that the Zionist move-
ment fights for a very valu-
able (ideal) aim. I am happy
