The "Nizzahon Vetus," or "Old Book of Polemic," is an example of Jewish disputa- tion in its most aggressive form. The anonymous author, who probably lived in the late 13th Century in Germany, collected a vir- tual encyclopedia of Jewish arguments against Chris- tianity, ranging from the re- futations of christological interpretations of the He- brew Bible to a critique of the Gospels and criticisms of Christian doctrine and morality. TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Prof. Raanan Weitz, Labor Party representative in the Jewish Agency Settlement Department, believes the Begin government and the previous Labor government have spent too much money on settlements in the Sinai and on the West Bank at the expense of settling the Galilee. Weitz's Herut counter- part in the Settlement De- partment, Matityahu Dro- bles, disagrees. He says more should be spent on West Bank settlement and 150,000 Jews be encouraged to settle there during the next five years in order to affect Arab autonomy for the region. He claimed that 4,000- 5,000 couples each year could be induced to settle on the West Bank but could offer no plan to fund the program. It costs Israel $70,000 to settle each per- son.
