people.

Trifa is accused of
complicity in the
January 1941 Bucharest
pogrom, staged by the fa-
cist Iron Iron Guard,
which caused the murder
of about 600 Jews. De-
naturalization proceed-
ings against him are
pending.

El Al Official Slain in Turkey

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Un-
known assassins, firing
Kalachnikov automatic
rifles, sent 50 bullets rip-
ping through the car of Ab-
raham Ela7sr, El Al man-
ager in Istanbul, who was
slain while driving home
from the airport late last
week.
At least 15 bullets pene-
trated the body of the 43-
year-old Israeli airline
executive, killing him in-
stantly, according to Istan-
bul police.
Mr. Elazar, the father of
two children, was born in
Bulgaria and settled in Is-
rael in 1949 where he went
to work for El AI as an elec-
trician.
He rose in the com-
pany's ranks to become

branch manager in Is-
tanbul. His wife, also an
El Al employe, and their
children were on leave in
Israel when the murder
occurred.
Two terrorist groups have
claimed responsibility for
the killing. 4 previously
unknown terrorist group in
Beirut claimed that its
gunmen killed Elazar be-
cause he was a "Zionist
agent" and warned that it
would continue to act
against "agents of Zionism
and imperialism" all over
the world.
As a result of the murder,
an alert was declared at the
Israeli Embassy in Ankara
and at all other Israeli dip-
lomatic and commercial
offices in Turkey.
