JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Rabbi Abraham Hirschberg
of Mexico has flown to Tehe-
ran and hopes to be allowed
to conduct services for the
Jews among the U.S. Em-
bassy hostages imminently.
Hirschberg told "Kol Is-
rael" in a telephone inter-
view from Teheran Tuesday
that he was in touch with
the Iranian authorities,
having been "invited" to
Teheran at their behest,

and they would determine
precisely when he would go
to the embassy.
He did not know how
many of the hostages were
Jewish. Four Christian
clergymen were allowed to
conduct lengthy services for
the Christian hostages on
Christmas Eve.

Kol Yisrael said
Hirschberg, born in Po-
land and formerly a rabbi
in Chicago and Montreal,
had reached Iran "via
Jordan and Syria." He
himself described a
"warm welcome" appar-
ently by members of the
Jewish community there,
and said he had met with
the "chief rabbi" of Tehe-
ran. His trip had been ar-
ranged, he said, through
the Iranian embassy in
Washington.

In a related development
Egyptian President Anwar
Sadat said that Ayatollah
Khomeini is aspiring to
play God in Iran and his ac-
tions are a "crime against
Islam, an insult to human-

ity, an insult to man's
honor."
Sadat criticized other
Moslem leaders for remain-
ing silent while "the ugliest
crimes are being committed
in the name of Islam."

Sadat described Kho-
meini as a man "moti-
vated by grudge, hatred
and a lust for vengeance.
In the name of Islam, he is
inciting Moslems to hit
America. But are these
the injunctions of Islam?
Islam bids us to be good,
loving, truthful, coopera-
tive and brotherly."

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Gush Emunim reiter-
ated last week that they will
not move unless the gov-
ernment alters present laws
to make Jewish settlements
throughout the West Bank
and Gaza legal and beyond
challenge by the courts.
The Gush Secretariate
announced that it had "de-
cided" to establish a new
settlement in the region of
Yamit in northern Sinai
which is slated to be re-
turned to Egypt in 1981 in
accordance with the
Israeli-Egyptian peace
treaty.
The government is ex-
pected to veto that idea. Nor
is it likely to initiate legis-
lation of the kind demanded
by the Gush as there is no
possibility that it could win
a majority in the Knesset or
the Cabinet.

Yamit, still unreconciled
to the fact that they will
have to leave within the
next two years, em-
barked on a motor cara-
van from Sinai through
Tel Aviv to the Western
Wall in Jerusalem last
week.

A new myasthenia gravis
treatment center has
opened at Sinai Hospital, it
was announced by Hilbert
Sosin, board member of the
Myasthenia Gravis Asso-
ciation.
The center will be open
once a month on Saturday
mornings beginning in
January. Dr. Rai na
Ernstoff, neurologist on the
Sinai staff, is the center's
director.

ence has decided to increase
its efforts to improve the
quality of life of the elderly
by establishing a Center for
the Biology of the Aging, it
was announced by the
president of the institute,
Prof. Michael Sela.
The new center, to be
headed by Prof. David Da-
non, will coordinate the
work being done on the sub-
ject in the institute's facul-
ties of biology, biophysics-
biochemistry and chemis-
try, and will initiate new re-
search projects in this
sphere.

They covered their cars
with signs reading "Yamit
is the Wall of Jerusalem"
and "The Yamit Region Set-
tlements are the Shield of
Ashkelon."
The motorcade was or-
ganized by MK Geula
Cohen and Hannan Porat,
leaders of the ultra-
nationalist Tehiya move-
ment. The Defense Ministry
barred the demonstrators
from passing through Arab
villages in the Gaza Strip as
they had planned because of
the provocative nature of
such a move.
