Both he and Lubavitcher Rabbi Abraham Shemtov (brother of Detroiter Rabbi Berel Shemtov), alluded to the 50 Americans held hos- tage in the U.S. embassy in Teheran in their remarks during the 15-minute light- ing ceremony — was cna- dles in a 36-inch sterling silver menora presented to the President and electric "flames" in the 36-foot gold-painted stainless steel menora. It was the first time that Hanuka candleabras were lighted in the area that has seen many of America's most historic occasions. The 25-minute meeting was held in the Oval Office in the White House on Mon- day.
