Rabbi Leads Marriage Event

Rabbi and Mrs. Neil
(Erica) Brief of Skokie, Ill.,
will participate in the
Jewish Marriage Encounter
sessions this weekend at the
Livonia Holiday Inn.
Rabbi and Mrs. Brief will
be joined by two other
Chicago couples. All are
trained in marriage
encounter.
According to the organ-
ization, • "Marriage
encounter is not a problem-
solving session. It is a
couple-oriented experience
designed to make good mar-
riages better.

on CJF Board

Six Detroiters have been
named to serve on the board
of directors of the Council of
Jewish Federations. They
include: Max M. Fisher, a
CJF past president; Martin
E. Citrin, CJF vice
president; Mandell L. Be-
rman; Maxwell Jospey;
Alan E. Schwartz and
George M. Zeltzer.
CJF will hold its first
board institute Jan. 18-20
at the Konover Hotel in
Miami Beach, Fla. Shabat
activities will include a dis-
cussion on "Retrieving the
Jewish Treasures of
Prague," led by Mark
Talisman, director of the
CJF Washington Action
Office; Prof. Michael A.
Meyer of Hebrew Union
College; and Hillel Kieval of
Harvard University.
Dr. David Sidorsky of
Columbia University will
speak on "The Jewish Con-
dition and the Decade
Ahead," followed by round-
table discussion.
Other sessions include an
orientation for board mem-
bers and a panel discussion
on CJF in the 1980s. Con-
current workshops will be
devoted CJF's functional
operations: community
services, budgeting and
planning, volunteer and
professional development,
financial resource develop-
ment, international affairs
and national coordination.

Day Care Center
in Israel Funded
by Local Couple

Ground has been broken
for the Norman and Esther
Allan Day Care Center in
Haifa, Israel.
Under construction adja-
cent to Rothschild Hospital,
the center, to be staffed, op-
erated and maintained by
Pioneer Women, will con-
tain three classrooms. It
will provide day care for
children of Rothschild's
medical and nursing staff.
The project is a coopera-
tive venture with Mr. and
Mrs. Allan, Pioneer
Women, the municipality of
Haifa and the Ministry of
Labor and Social Affairs.

Hanuka always begins on
the 25th of Kislev because it
was resolved that the Tem-
ple in Jerusalem be rededi-
cated on the exact day it had
been defiled by the Syrians
some years before.
