New Chabad House Opens Lubavitch has announced the opening of the Grand Rapids Chabad House, lo- cated at 1910 Michigan Ave. N.E., under the direc- tion of Rabbi and Mrs. Yosef Weingarten. Sponsors of the Grand Rapids Chabad House are: Emma Schaver, Abraham Malzburg, Joseph Simon of Muskegon, Herman Lando of Kalamazoo and the Be- rman Brothers firm of Grand Rapids. The new facility houses a swimming pool, library, synagogue, student lounge, dining area, nursery and guest rooms. A nursery for children ages 21/2 to 5 years will be held twice weekly begin- ning Monday taught by Mrs. Sarah Weingarten. Pre-Bar Mitzva classes and adult education groups are held at the Chabad House. In addition, Rabbi Wein- garten makes weekly visits to Western Michigan Uni- versity and Grand Valley College in Grand Rapids for on campus individual in- struction. The Chabad program also provides a hospital visita- tion service for Jewish patients in the Grand Rapids area. Those at the Veteran's Hospital who are able to leave the hospital for an entire Shabat are guests at Chabad House for serv- ices, study and meals.
