Please call 399-0079 BAND Excellent Music For All Social Occasions 731-6081 Homosexuality and Judaism By RABBI SAMUEL FOX (Copyright 1979, JTA Inc.) Judaism forbids homosexuality. The Bible explicitly states that homosexuality is consid- ered to be an abomination (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13). The Talmud (Nedarim 51a) explains that homosexuality destroys the family unit and considers it one of the gravest errors on the part of those who engage in the act. The Chinuch (209,210) indicates that it is also wasting semen in vain besides defying the Almigh- ty's plan for reproduction implied in nature. It also indicates that homosexual- ity is a transgression of the biblical command that a man "shall cleave unto a woman" (Genesis 2:24) and not a man. It has also been suggested that since the Bible states that„ the Almighty created humankind as "man and woman" (Genesis 5:2), homosexuality would be an- tagonistic to the aim of the heavenly creator.
