Potential Suicide
Victim Is Saved
by MDA Service
Fast thinking
HAIFA
and coordination by per-
sonnel of Magen David
Adom, Israel's Red Cross
Service, were credited with
saving the life of a suicide
attempt suffering from a se-
vere head wound.
The emergency call was
received by the MDA com-
munications center in Haifa
and immediately relayed to
the special MDA mobile in-
tensive care ambulance,
with its telemetric life sup-
port system.
However, because the vic-
tim was in the outlying
suburb of Kiryat Yam, the
MDA dispatcher knew the
MCRA might not reach him
in time. Thinking quickly,
she called an MDA medic
who lived near the wound-
ed man, to start emergency
treatment immediately.
A police car, summoned
by the MDA communica-
tions center, then picked up
both the victim and the
MDA medic and sped them
on the way to meet the
mobile intensive care am-
bulance. Halfway to Haifa
the two vehicles met and the
patient was transferred to
the special life support
equipment and rushed to
Haifa's Rambam Hospital
for surgery.
