A Hanuka Prayer

By MARTY ODGERS

God, many years ago,
You let the oil burn
That the light might shine
In the Temple in Israel.

Today, God may Your light
Shine in our hearts
That Israel will live Forever!

So, for eight days we light a candle,
For eight days we say a prayer,
For eight days the lights glow brightly,
But, always, God, we're in your care.

cultural aspirations have
been "systematically sur-
pressed." The Soviet
authorities, Blum charged,
are sponsoring an official
campaign of anti-Semitism.

Regarding the situa-
tion of Syrian Jews, Blum
said "these Jews are still
denied their basic human
rights, and first and
foremost the right to emi-
grate.

"In fact, this year has
seen a dramatic worsening
in the atitutde of Syrian
authorities toward its
Jewish community. Jewish
men have been brutally be-
aten and detained by the
Muhabarat, the Syrian
secret police, because they
were suspected of helping
Jewish families flee the
country."
