THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, December 7, 1979 19 Separated as Babies, Identical Twins Reunite and Share Their Differences NEW YORK — Oscar Stohr and Jack Yufe are identical twins whos a back- grounds are anything but identical. Stohr and Yufe, now 47, were separated as infants when their parents di- vorced. Stohr had a Catholic upbringing with his mater- nal grandmother in the Sudentenland of Czechos- lovakia during the peak of the Nazi era. Yufe lived with his Jewish merchant father in the Caribbean, then joined a kibutz in Israel at the age of 17. When he returned from Israel in 1954 he passed through Germany to meet the brother his father had told him about. The reunion was a near disaster. Yufe was appal- led when the translator warned him not to tell Stohr he was Jewish be- cause of his pro-Nazi sympathies. Recently, Yufe and Stohr tried again. Thomas Bouchard, a psychologist at the University of Min- nesota, studying long sepa- rated twins, paid Stohr's way to the U.S. The study is designed to determine whether it is invironment or heredity that shapes human behavior and thought. The two brothers have found many similarities and even a few differences in their ways. This time however, the twins are at ease with each other, united by regret over their separa- tion. - Three Charged for Nazi Activity BONN (JTA) — A West Berlin court has sentenced a 28-year-old coal dealer to 11 months in jail and fined two 17-year-old youths $170 and $115, respectively, on charges of spreading neo- Nazi propaganda in a tele- vision broadcast and for displaying Nazi Party sym- bols. The Nazi Party is il- legal in West Berlin. The three appeared be- fore a West German TV team last March in a Berlin cafe where they described themselves as members of the Kampfgruppe Grossdeutschland and de- manded the abolition of the ban on the Nazi Party. The trio displayed placards with swastikas and distributed them to the patrons. The judge sharply criticized the television station which, he said, stood morally accused for televising the three. The mild sentence and low fines were justified, the judge said, because the TV station bears part of the responsibility. The station's reporter was criticized for screening the 90-second scene. The TV station had paid a $140 fee to the trio. German Sees Equality for Palestinians BONN (JTA) — Helmut Schaefer, the foreign policy spokesman of the Free Democratic Party's par- liamentary faction, said that it should be made clear to the Arabs that the fate of the Palestinians is as im- portant to Germans as the fate of Israel. In a statement on his re- turn from a recent visit to several Arab countries, Schaefer strongly supported an official dialogue between the Federal Republic and the Palestinians.
