This is a three-year ex- periment to determine whether such apartment living can delay place- ment of such elderly in- dividuals into nursing homes. Residents' monthly fee will include food, rent, utilities and the services of the caseworker and the housekeeper from JFS. Marvin Daitch, chairman of the housing relocation committee of JFS, indicated that residents who can't af- ford the full fee may be sub- sidized. Samuel Lerner, agency director, indicated that the program is modeled on simi- lar programs in existence in Baltimore, Washington and St. Louis. Silverman, president of Jewish Family Service, announced that applications are still being accepted for the "Group Re- sidences for the Elderly" Program. He said that two apart- ments have been rented and they should be ready for oc- cupancy in December. The project is aimed at senior adults who are un- able to manage independent living, but who are not so infirm as to need nursing home care. By living in these apartments they will be able to remain in the community in a family set- ting rather than live in a nursing home or institu- tional setting. Each apartment will have three bedrooms. They will be serviced by a housekeeper who wi4 be in attendance five days a Reek. The project is funded in part by a grant from the Jewish Com- .■ .
