Psychiatric Program

A comprehensive, nationally acclaimed adult
psychiatric program is provided at Sinai
Hospital.

The multifaceted program includes crisis
intervention and acute follow-up care; an
outpatient clinic; inpatient acute psychiatric
care; a Day Hospital program; the Problems
of Daily Living Clinic; and liaison psychiatric
consultation services for medical and
surgical patients hospitalized at Sinai
Hospital.

The outpatient psychiatric service at Sinai
Hospital, provided on the second floor of
the Louis C. and Edith B. Blumberg
Professional Building, operates as an agency
of the Detroit-Wayne County Community
Mental Health Services Board. It serves a
catchment area with a population of
approximately 180,000 persons. The
program provides individual intensive,
supportive, group, conjoint and family
therapy, as well as chemotherapy for both
acutely and chronically ill patients.
In addition to these services, Sinai's
Department of Psychiatry provides support
to Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in two of its
services: namely, assistance with its child
psychiatry program and crisis intervention in
the Emergency Department.

In the area of crisis intervention, the Sinai
Department of Psychiatry provides staff for
Mt. Carmel's emergency psychiatry service,
and short-term follow-ups. The program is
staffed by psychiatrists, psychiatric social
workers and psychiatric nurses.
