In all, too much cannot be said of Dr. Priver's contributions to the hospital. Summarizing the past 26 years since the institution's official opening, Dr. Priver has seen Sinai Hospital contribute to the quality of life in the metropolitan area . . . serving countless people . . . serving them with excellence in health care and medical training. Sinai Hospital has gained the experience, the resources — the people, the skills and the equipment — and a commitment to excellence. And throughout these years of growth one value has remained constant: the age-old Jewish concept of "bicur cholim" — help to the sick. The task ahead is for the present leadership to guide the institution into its next quarter century. .:„ providing transitional medical care for patients no longer requiring acute care but not yet ready to return home for convalescence. This concept has become an accepted and familiar practice at hospitals throughout the nation. • He has led the development of Sinai Hospital as an important teaching institution with medical school affiliation, namely the Wayne State University School of Medicine. As a result of his insight, Sinai Hospital has also contributed impressively to clinical education for many paramedical disciplines. • He has guided the establishment of the Shapero School of Nursing which has offered a one-year course for licensed practical nurses and throughout its 22-year history has maintained an outstanding record of achievement. On the following pages we are enumerating Sinai Hospital's present services and plans for the future, many of which were initiated by Dr. Priver. The responsibility of moving the institution forward lies in the capable hands of the entire Board and its officers, including President Alfred L. Deutsch; Vice Presidents Maxwell Jospey, Jerome J. Frank, David M. Miro and Erwin S. Simon; and Secretary Robert A. Steinberg; and Executive Vice President Irving A. Shapiro and his administrative staff. Mr. Shapiro, in his new position, brings with himself a wealth of experience. He joined Sinai's staff in 1970 as an Assistant Administrator and two years later was appointed Associate Administrator. In 1976, Mr. Shapiro was named Administrator and was responsible for the overall operational administration of the Hospital until he became Vice President/Administration in 1978. Prior to coming to Sinai, he was an Administrative Assistant at an Ohio hospital and subsequently served as a hospital consultant for five years. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from George Washington University. Supplement to the Jewish News 7
