Hanuka at Dinner, Auction

Synagogue's youth groups,
sisterhood and men's club
will hold its annual Hanuka
dinner auction 5 p.m. Dec. 9
in the synagogue. The auc-
tion will begin at 6:30.
Proceeds will benefit the
youth department. Com-
mittee chairmen are: Hadas
Reiter, Shoresh Group;
Barry Frank, Migdal Tzion
Group; Rona Freedland, sis-
terhood; and Fred Rubens-
tein, men's club.

The Birmingham Temple
will be the scene of two lec-
tures this week.
At 8:30 p.m. Monday,
Rabbi Sherwin Wine will
begin his series on "Jewish
Writers — America and Is-
rael." He will review "The
Ghost Writer" by Philip
Roth.
There is a charge, and the
public is invited.
Mira Bakhle of the South-
field Child Development
Center and Wayne State
University, will speak at 8
p.m. Tuesday on "On Rais-
ing a Human Being."

Pledges Raised

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Some 318 participants in
the United Jewish Appeal's
second annual President's
Mission concluded their 2 1/2
day visit to Israel earlier
this month by pledging a
total of nearly $6.7 million
to the regular 1980 cam-
paign, and an additional
$1.25 million for Project
Renewal.
The regular campaign
total represents a 43 per-
cent increase in pledges by
the same contributors last
year.
