Harry Abrams Dies at 74,
Noted Art Books Publisher

NEW YORK — Harry N.
Abrams, pioneer publisher
of quality art books, died
Nov. 26 at age 74.
Formerly art director of
the Book-of-the-Month
Club, Mr. Abrams left the
club in 1949 to publish his
own books. He started his
company with $100,000. It
took the company five years
to break even, but by 1958
he was considered the
largest publisher of art
mks in the country with
lore than 200 titles in
print. He had sold 50 mil-
lion individual color re-
productions.

Alex Kushner

Alex Kushner, a residen-
tial home builder, died Nov.
28, at age 66.
Born in London, Ont., Mr.
Kushner was the founder,
owner and president for
more than 30 years of Savoy
Investment Co. He was a
member of the Builders
Association of Southeastern
Michigan and the National
and Michigan Association
of Home Builders.
He also held membership
in Perfection Lodge of the
Masons, Crescent Shrine,
Oakland Century Lodge of
Bnai Brith and the Jewish
War Veterans.
He was a life and
founding member of
Adat Shalom Synagogue
and past president of its
cemetery committee. He
served in World War II.
Mr. Kushner, who resided
at 31490 Stonewood Ct.,
leaves his wife, Frances;
two sons, Dr. Roger and Dr.
Richard; a daughter, Mrs.
Daniel (Terri) Wehr; two
brothers, Abe of Gary, Ind.,
and Meyer; two sisters, Mrs.
Rose Levenberg and Mrs.
Marie Steiglitz of Los
Angeles, Calif.

Sidney Reegen

Dr. Sidney L. Reegen, an
associate professor in the
University of Detroit's
cheriiistry department, died
Nov. 26 at age 56.
Born in New York City,
Dr. Reegen was a member of
the American Chemical
Society, the American
Diabetes' Association and
the Engineering Society of
Detroit.
He leaves his wife,
Natalie; a daughter, Paula
of Ann Arbor; and a son,
Franklin.
