Argentina Allows Lokmans to Go to Israel
(Continued from Page 1)
Lokman, 56, was in failing
health while in prison.
In August, an official of
the Argentine embassy in
Washington said Lokman
was detained for "politi-
cal indoctrination of
youth for the Monteneros
terrorist group and act-
ing as financial agent for
the terrorist group Com-

no such bank exists in

the explanation by the
embassy official as
"questionable."
Rosenthal said that the
Herald reported that Lok-

charged with any offense
but that it was being said he
was being held for contacts
with subversives, allega-

Rosenthal said, "In fre-
eing Lokman, the national
executive power of Argen-
tina has acknowledged a
serious injustice. His re-
lease leads to the hope that
a more favorable trend is
beginning for the many
political prisoners whose
freedom the ADL is seeking.
Since three detainees have
been released in the past
two months, we hope the
Argentine government will
expedite the release of
many more prisoners prior
to the Christmas and New
Year season."
AID Chief Sees
Growing Market
CLEVELAND — Joseph
C. Wheeler of the Agency
for International Develop-
ment told a Cleveland
seminar that both Israel
and Egypt, which receive
nearly one-fourth of all U.S.
economic assistance, repre-
sent growing markets and
opportunities for American
business.
Wheeler, assistant ad-
ministrator of AID's Near
East Bureau, spoke before a
seminar organized by the
Cleveland Committee for
Development in Israel.
"We have an understand-
ing with Israel that civilian
imports from the U.S. will
exceed the amount of eco-
nomic assistance," Wheeler
explained.
"We also have under-
standings that Israel will
continue buying grains
from the United States at
approximately historical
levels and that American
firms will not in any way be
disadvantaged by the new
cash transfer system. We
are fully satisfied that
American firms gain fair
access to their business."

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
President Anwar Sadat of
Egypt on Nov. 20 formally
took back Mount Sinai from
Israel and declared it open
to all Moslems, Christians
and Jews.
He hoisted the Egyptian
flag over the site to mark
the second anniversary of
his visit to Jerusalem which
led to the Egyptian-Israeli
peace treaty.
Sadat appealed for an end
to hatred and bloodshed
among all peoples. He
hailed the efforts of
President Carter and Is-
rael's Premier Menahem
Begin in bringing about the
peace treaty.
Begin, who was unable to
attend, sent a message of
good wishes to Sadat.
