Irving Seligman, Cam- paign co-chairman with David Handleman, presid- ing, announced that gifts previously given in the amount of $6,300,000 were boosted at this rally to $6,972,000, with an addi- tional $4,827,000 for Project Renewal. Dayan, who was accom- par0c,d to the Detroit meet- Mrs. Dayan, was de- e in his explanatory statement as well as in his replies to questions from the gathered campaigners. He emphasized that Palestinians will not be de- prived of their rights, that Israel's policy of creating rsi settlements meant reten- tion of defensive forces on the borders to assure the na- tion's safety and that the Arabs will have the benefits of self-rule as well as amity in relation to Israel. But Is- rael's neighbor will be Jor- dan, he declared in his au- gury of an early agreement with Jordan. Gen. Dayan was equally emphatic in his confidence that Egypt's President Sadat as well as the Egyptian people will adhere to the Camp David agreements be- cause they are good for Egypt. Recalling the conse- quences of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, he explained that when the retaliating Israeli forces were 100 kilometers from Cairo, Sadat asked U.S. aid to end further advances by Israel's army. At that time, he said, the Soviet Union offered to help Sadat repel the Israelis but Sadat rejected USSR participation in Middle been agreed upon will be East affairs. Austerity Moves Boosting Prices (Continued from Page 1) Hurwitz, in a live television interview Monday, said "The time has come to tell the truth. Another nation could live on the amount of money we waste." He noted that the inflation rate is 8-12 percent per month or 100-150 percent per year. He said the proposed measures will make the economy more efficient but cautioned that infla- tion will not decline in the first two or three months. Hurwitz said Israel's an- nual balance of trade deficit stands at $4.3 billion. The measures being introduced will "freeze" services which are "greatly swollen," he said. Even projects which have Jerusalem Buses Bombed; Terrorists Caught at Sea JERUSALEM (JTA) — Eight school children and three other persons were in- jured when bombs exploded in two Jerusalem buses Monday morning. The in- juries were reported to be slight in all but one of the cases. Sunday night an Is- raeli naval patrol inter- cepted a rubber dinghy in which terrorists were at- tempting .to land on Israel's coast at Achziv, north of Nahariya. Two terrorists were captured and two others drowned. Both incidents are be- lieved to have been related to the second anniversary of president Anwar Sadat's historic visit to Jerusalem. Quick actions by alert driv- el assengers and police credited with averting a major tragedy in Jerusalem. One bomb exploded on a bus on Jaffa Road near Zion Square in the heart of downtown Jerusalem. All passengers had been evacuated moments before after one of them spotted a suspicious-looking object. The driver, who remained at the wheel, maneuvered the bus out of the heavy morning rush hour traffic and was racing toward an empty lot when the blast oc- curred. The explosion shat- tered nearby windows and brought traffic to a halt. Most of the injuries occurred on the second bus which was about to enter its terminal in the eastern suburb of Kiryat Hayovel when the bomb exploded. The encounter off Israel's coast was the first instance in three months of terrorist maritime activity. Security sources reported that the dinghy opened fire on the Israeli pastrol boat with small arms and bazookas. The fire was returned and the dinghy was sunk. One of the captured terrorists was wounded. The bodies of two others were washed ashore. The dinghy was recovered by the navy and an alert was declared all along the coast. the good-will tactics of Is- rael which, he is confident, will lead to the best Arab- Jewish relations. Participants in Tues- day's program included Paul Zuckerman, Jay Kogan, Lawrence tac- kier, David Page and Martin Citrin, who out- lined the Jewish Welfare Federation interest in and concern for the suc- cess of the Allied Jewish Campaign. From Detroit, Gen. and Mrs. Dayan went to Kalamazoo to speak at Western Michigan Univer- sity. ,3 OUNCES OF ACCURACY IN ACTION...
