personalities, visited some
of the 1,500 installations
supported by Pioneer
Women and charted new
courses for the future.
Among the highlights of
the convention was the
Golda Meir Award to Isaac
Stern, accepted for him in
his absence by Mayor Teddy
Kollek of Jerusalem, and
the presentation of an ini-
tial gift of $350,000 by
founders of the Golda Meir
Child Development Fund as
a "living memorial" to
Golda Meir, an early leader
of Pioneer Women, in ob-
servance of the Interna-
tional Year of the Child.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred
Landau of Oak Park an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Caren
Landau, to Jeffrey Alan
Levine, son of Dr. and Mrs.
Leslie Levine of Franklin.
Miss Landau was graduated
from the University of
Michigan, where she earned
BA and MSW degrees. Her
fiance earned a BA degree
at U-M and attends Wayne
State University Law
School. A December wed-
ding is planned.

Mrs. Sadie Kaminski of
Southfield announces the
engagement of her daugh-
ter, Lauren M. Kaminski,
to Alan D. Weinberger,
son of Judge and Mrs. Theo-
dore G. Weinberger of Great
Neck, N.Y. Miss Kaminski
earned an MSW degree at
the University of Michigan.
Her fiance earned law de-
grees at New York Univer-
sity and Harvard Univer-
sity. Miss Kaminski,
daughter of the late Mr.
Mark Kaminski, and her
fiance plan a December
wedding in Washington,
D.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gurvitz
of Southfield announce the
engagement oftheir daugh-
ter, Carol Gurvitz, to
Barry Eichengreen, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Eichengreen of Berkeley,
Calif. Miss Gurvitz is pursu-
ing graduate studies at the
Woodrow Wilson School of
Public and International
Affairs at Princeton Uni-
versity. Her fiance earned a
PhD degree in economics at
Yale University and is in
England, where he is study-
ing under a Fulbright-
Hayes Scholarship. A June
wedding is planned.

NEW YORK — A tele-
phone caller told United
Press International that the
Jewish Defense League was
responsible for a smoke
bomb that was set off in
Carnegie Hall Sunday
night at the conclusion of a
performance by the Moscow
Pops.
The performance had
been picketed outside the
hall by Americans for
Soviet Jewry.
