SAN FRANCISCO (JTA)
- American Jews ap-
proaching the 1980s resem-
ble other ehtnic groups in
that they are faced with the
loss of traditional moorings
on which to base their sense
of identity, a California psy-
chologist has reported.
Dr. Judith Klein of Ber-
keley reported her findings
during the annual meeting
here of the executive com-
mittee of the American
Jewish Committee.
Speaking at a session of
the agency's Jewish Com-
munal Affairs commission,
she said past generations of
American Jews "shared the
immigrant experience, reli-
gious ritual and a collective
fervor against anti-
Semitism, as a basis for
their Jewish identity" but
present-day American Jews
"have a wide range of feel-
ings about themselves as
Jews."
