Rabbi Jung's 'Love and Life'

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

their now 10-month-old son,
Jonathan Adam Mathew
. . . The third name is for a
more than 80-year-old
patient of Joe's at Ford Hos-
pital, whose husband
passed away without any-
one being named after him.
THERE'S NOTHING
MORE wonderful than a
simha . . . and certainly
nothing more joyous than
attending one for someone
close.
Seems like just yesterday
that niece Diane (daughter
of sister Lil) gave hubby
Norm Gussin a son, Brian,
Howard . . . Hard to believe'
that there he was being Bar
Mitzva at Temple Israel,
with Rabbi M. Robert Syme
and-Cantor Harold Orbach
officiating . . . In Rabbi
Syme's usual grand address
to a Bar Mitzva, he too re-
minisced . . . recalling mar-
rying Brian's parents,
Diane and Norm.
Brian's entry into man-
hood was without flaw .. .
and he did everyone most
proud.
It was an all-day affair
. . . with reception at Fur-
niture Club, dancing to
Dan Yessian's ork and
get-together for out-of-
town guests at Lil's home
. . . uncle and aunt Dr.
Barry and Dr. Nancy
Bunny Ross busy mak- Rosen from Baltimore,
ing sales ... You can tell uncle Dr. Dan Gussin
Chuck Kopel is the son of from Hawaii, uncle and
Shirley and Larry Kopel aunt Al and Cathy Gussin
... Jerry Moss in the from California,
party spirit, but wearing grandparents Ruth and
Gussin from
his appraisal head ring Sam
... Yale Phillips wearing California, Aunt Sylvia
the gorgeous watch given Ramras from Phoenix,
to him by wife Evelyn, Ariz., Sara Seidenfeld
bought at Al Kay, but from Scotsdale, Ariz. and_
cherishing much more cousin Scott Raskin from
the little wedding ring New York.
A lot of fun . . . good times
she gave him 30 years ago
... Ben Kandel shudder- for all . . . a great job by
ing at the thought when Brian . . . and even great-
someone asked if he was aunt Minnie Raskin getting
going back in the delica- out of the house for the first
tessen business ... Ben time in a long while .. .
used to own Benny's which was really something
Sabra in Oak Park ... . . . For this, too, everybody
Eddie and Susie Radner thanks Brian . . . a fine
at Al Kay Jewelers for the young man.
ALAN SCHMIER, at-
first time and amazed at
the glamorous store ... torney, has been appointed
Eddie and coffee- to the State Building Corn-
drinking partner Nate mission by Lt. Gov. James
Blumenfeld handle Al Brickley . . . Alan, son of
Herman Schmier, comes
Kay's books.
This was just the first from a long family line of
night of a two-night grand Jewish barristers . . . noted
opening and I had to leave for their fine work with
early . . . No telling what numerous charities.
JEROME GROPMAN,
went on or how crowded it
got later . . . As it was, assistant special attorney
- people were beginning to general under Frank Kelly,
is now with the firm of
jam the place.
It was probably the only Bayer, Groem, Gorbein,
grand opening folks were Gropman and Kaplan in
ever at where they couldn't Southfield.
GORDON WATER-
get in or out without buzzer
permission . . . Reminded STONE, Alvin's son, is di-
one fellow of the prohibition rector of public relations for
days except that Al Kay Nanette Slavin Raketen at
Jewelers doesn't need a tiny "Jackson at Northville
Downs," which runs until
peephole.
DR. JOSEPH BENE- Dec. 3.
BIRTHDAY CON-
SON and wife Evelyn call it
a mitzva . . . giving a third GRATS . . . to Cobie Glad-
name when he was born to win.

ex-
JOE LOUIS,
heavyweight champ and ace
greeter at Caesar's Palace
in Las Vegas . . . was repre-
sented in true likeness by
an almost two foot, 50 pound
bust that stood on one of the
counters in the grand open-
ing of Al Kay Jewelers,
Southfield and 111/2 Mile
Rd.
The bronze bust is being
donated to the Joe Louis
Arena by former Detroiter
Sid "Hudosh" Hudson of Las
Vegas, who couldn't be here
for the opening and sent the
likeness back with Nate
Bridges for premier display
at Al Kay Jewelers before
being presented to the city
of Detroit.
The opening looked more
like a food show surrounded
by elegant jewelry . . . hors
d' oeuvres galore and Dave
Katz pouring champagne
like water . . . Marty Moore
missing very little with his
picture taking . . . Al Kaf-
tan and his new hairdo that
"Is now so easy to manage"
. . . Sister Edee Moss know-
ing everybody . . . Mother of
Al and Edee, Esther Kaftan,
the 'perfect hostess .. .
Bruce Weiss looking like
brother Larry . . . and
mother Helen Weiss, owner
with hubby Morris of Ze-
man's Bakery, proudly
exclaiming, "And why not?"

Costly Protection

Although about 90 per-
cent of all worldwide U.S.
military assistance since
1946 has been in the form of
grants, Israel never re-
ceived military aid on a
grant basis until 1973. She
has, therefore, gone deeply
into debt to pay for her secu-
rity.
