KIAMESHA LAKE, N.Y.
(JTA) — Rabbi Alexander
Schindler accused the Car-

night of exploiting the
American Jewish commu-

and declared that he will
not work for the re-election
of President Carter whose
handling of the Andrew
Young resignation, he
claimed, was a form of
"political anti-Semitism."

anger against American
Jews.
He said, "I see a hell of a
lot of people that would
be better than this Ad-
ministration," adding
that, "If Carter and
(John) Conally (a de-
clared Republican
presidential candidate)
confront each other (in
the 1980 elections) I'll
commit suicide."
Leon Dulzin, chairman of
the World Zionist Organiza-
tion Executiv, speaking at
the convention Tuesday,
said that some 15,000 Jews
from Iran have reached Is-
rael since the takeover of
that country by Ayatollah
Ruhollah Khomeini.
Dulzin also said that
every effort through dip-
lomatic channels was being
made to "rescue the more
than 25,000 Jews of
Ethiopia," but the effort is
being frustrated by the un-
willingness of the Ethiopian
authorities to even discuss
the matter.
Calling on the American
Jewish community to in-
crease the voluntary migra-
tion of larger numbers of
American Jews to Israel so
as to help "in the fulfillment
of the Zionist ideal," Dulzin
also urged that intensive
Jewish educational pro-
grams be coupled with in-
novative plans designed to
"enhance - the quality of
Jewish life."
The convention was also
scheduled to discuss the
much-debated issue of ordi-
nation of women rabbis. A
Conservative survey on the
issue disclosed that 53 per-
cent of the men and 45 per-
cent of the women of Con-
servative families surveyed
did not feel very strongly
about the issue.

Lauds Carter
for Move on Iran

NEW. YORK (JTA) —
The American Jewish
Committee commended
President Carter for his an-
nouncement that the
United States will im-
mediately end all oil im-
ports from Iran and pledged
its "full cooperation in the
President's call for nation-
wide energy conservation."
Carter's action was in re-
sponse to the seizure of the
U.S. Embassy in Teheran a
week ago and the holding of
more than 60 Americans
hostage there.
In a related development,
former Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger visited the
ailing Shah Reza Pahlavi at
New York Hospital-Cornell
Medical Center. Kissinger
said the shah should not be
compelled to return to Iran
as demanded by the stu-
dents holding American
hostages there.

woman, and child living in
adjacent settlements, but,
because of the size and phys-
ical structure of Israel's
boundaries would leave all
of Israel in danger of an at-
tack."
Rabbi Yisrael Abuchazira
Shlitoh, who is called the
"Rebbe of the Sephardic
Jewish community," alsr-M
recently announced hill/
position on the issue.

"The matter is clear ac-
cording to our Holy Torah,
that by bringing enemies of
Israel closer to the borders
of Israel, you are endanger-
ing all the inhabitants who
dwell in Israel," he said.
