Mother of the Year Award
Nominations Being Taken

Nominations are being
taken by the Michigan
Mothers Association of the
American Mothers Com-
mittee for the annual
Michigan Mother of the
Year Award.
Qualifications include:
• She must be at least 45
and less than 76 years old.
• She must be qualified
to represent the mothers of
America in all respon-
sibilities attached to her
role. Her personal qualifica-
tions are those highly re-
garded in mothers includ-
ing understanding, pa-
tience, compassion, love,
courage, and home-making
skills.
• She must be a suc-
cessful mother and home-
maker as evidenced by the
character and contributions
of her individual children in
the religious, educational,
civic, governmental or
business worlds.
• She must be an active
member of a religious body.
• She must participate in
community, state, national
and/or international activi-
ties.
• She must have married
in a legally-accepted cere-
mony.
• She must be a legal
mother with one or more
children, the youngest of
which is 15 years of age.
• Mothers with legally
adopted children qualify for
State or National Mother of
the Year. These may be in-
cluded with her own for
qualifying. Foster children
may be included, but do not
qualify her as a legal
mother.

Vegetable Dish

1 small eggplant, peeled and
cut In cubes
1 medium butterneck squash,
peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium zucchini, thinly
sliced
-1 /21b. fresh mushrooms, whole
1 medium onion, cut into rings
2 tbsps. corn oil
1 tsp. salt
3 medium fresh tomatoes, cut
in quarters
2-3 tsps. chicken soup powder
Soak eggplant cubes in
slightly salted water for 20
minutes. Drain and squeeze
out excess water. In a large
skillet heat oil and add all veg-
etables. Cook over low heat,
stirring occasionally, until
vegetables are done. Add salt
and soup powder. Mix well.
Heat for 2 minutes. Serve hot
or cold. Serves 6-10, depend-
ing on how much your house-
hold is fond of vegetables.

Russian Children

The Old Newsboys Good-
fellows have received the
names of six Russian im-
migrant families from the
Jewish Family Service for
the delivery of toys for
Hanuka.
The families have chil-
dren aged 6 to 12.
The deliveries will be-
made by Judge Benjamin
Friedman, Robert Naftaly,
Barry Grant, Fred Mann
and Alan Ackerman.
