Rabbi Leo Jung, professor
of ethics emeritus, Yeshiva
University and president of
the Jewish Academy of Arts
and Sciences, will be in De-
troit as guest of honor at a
tribute dinner, 6 p.m. Dec. 2
at Young Israel of Oak-
Woods.
Sponsored by the rabbis of
the Rabbinical Council of
America, Detroit Region, in
cooperation with the Jewish
National Fund of Greater
Detroit, the event is open to
the community.
The event also will pay
tribute to 91-year-old Ab-
raham Gubin, and his sister
Zipporah Gubin, for their
generous gift of chaff
(18,000) trees planted
through the JNF and in
recognition of their desig-
nation that the trees be
planted specifically in the
Rabbi Leo Jung Forest in
Safed."
Rabbi Sidney Green is
chairman of the Detroit
Area RCA and pro-
visional co-chairman of
the event.
Provisional co-chairman
of the dinner with Rabbi
Green, is Carmi M.
Slomovitz, president of De-
troit JNF.
Rabbi Jung, who holds
PhD, DHL and DD degrees,
is senior rabbi, The Jewish
Center, New York City, and
since 1950, is editor of the
Jewish Library Series. He is
the author of "Living
Judaism," "Crumbs and
Character," "The Rhythm of
Life," "Harvest," "Heir-
loom," "Human Relations in
Jewish Law" and "Between
Man and Man."
In 1976, he was ap-
pointed chairman, cul-
tural committee of the
Joint Distribution Com-
mittee and is a past
president of the Rabbini-
cal Council, Union of Or-
thodox Jewish Congre-
gations of America. In
1949, he was on a War
Department mission to
the Far East and has just
returned from his 18th
trip to Israel. He has
traveled extensively
through South America,
North African countries
and Iran.
