Wilentz, newly-named chief
justice of the New Jersey
Supreme Court has res-
igned from an all-white
country club, denying that
his decision was prompted
by the recent ruling of the
U.S. Senate Judiciary
Committee which prohibits
Federal judges from belong-
ing to restricted clubs.
According to a story in the
Jewish Post and Opinion,
Wilentz said he resigned
from the club, (which is pre-
dominantly Jewish) "either
shortly before or shortly
after becoming chief jus-
tice." Wilentz remains a
member of the Ocean Beach
Club, a predominantly
white country club in Perth
