ice and Temple Emanu-El.
Lieng Toi Dang, a ship
navigator from Mong Cai,
his wife and three sons ar-
rived at Metropolitan Air-
port Oct. 4. They were met
by Elaine Zaks, a social
worker with Jewish Family
Service, Rabbi Lane
Steinger of Temple
Emanu-El and two of his
congregants, Abe and Bea
Sacks.
Rabbi Steinger is coor-
dinator of the rescue cam-
paign for the Metropolitan
Detroit Federation of Re-
form Synagogues, which
has been working with
HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant
Aid Society) in resettling
Vietnamese "boat people."
The U.S. will absorb 50,000
refugees during the coming
year; HIAS has been asked
by the State Department to
resettle 6,000 of them.
While Temple Emanu-El
is taking care of the family's
immediate needs, the
Jewish Family Service is
acting as the sponsoring
agency and its staff will be
available to help the Liengs.
