Kleinman, Cyrille Fried-

be recorders. Susan Cit-
rin is chairman of the
JFS-RS Volunteer Serv-
ices Committee.
Continental breakfast
will be- served.
Volunteers are needed to
service the aged and Soviet
Jewish immigrants. For in-

bey, coordinator, volunteer
services, or Ms. Barenholtz,

A forest of 10,000 trees
was planted in Lahav, Is-
rael, recently in honor of the
80th birthday of Rose Her-
man, and in memory of her
husband, John R. Herman.
Established by their son,
Dr. Donald L. Herman, pro-
fessor of political science at
Grand Valley State College
in Grand Rapids, and by
their daughter Mrs. Victor
S. (Hortense) Axelroad of
Bloomfield Hills, through
the John R. and Rose Her-
man Foundation, the forest
was petitioned through the
Detroit office of Jewish Na-
tional Fund.

Mrs. Herman is honorary
building fund chairman for

ORCHARD LAKE STORE ONLY

Temple Israel, and through
the family foundation do-
nated $250,000 to the new
temple on Walnut Lake and
Drake Roads. The John R.
and Rose Herman Theater
and Social Hall is named for
them, and it was four gen-
erations of the Herman fam-
ily who turned the first
shovel-full of dirt at Temple
Israel's groundbreaking
ceremonies.
Mrs. Herman is a long-
time contributor to the
Zedakah Club, to the Re-
form Jewish Appeal and
the Miami Heart Institute
and makes matching do-
nations annually in
Michigan and Florida to
ORT, the American Heart
Association, City of
Hope, Denver League —
National Home for As-
thmatic
Children,
Hadassah,
Anti-
Defamation League of
Bnai Brith and JNF.
Both Mrs. Herman and
her daughter are life mem-
bers of JNF.
Other of the family's
philanthropies include the
establishment of the John
R. Herman Board Room in
the United Hebrew School's
building and a room in the
cardio-vascular unit of
Harper Hospital.
