Where Will
They Live
If You Die
Tomorrow?
Fear of death is partly fear of unfinished
business, and Gleaner mortgage
protection insurance can help. Low
payments now can yield a free
mortgage if you die.

Ability, dedication,
responsiveness
These are the qualities that earned Harvey E. Olson
membership in Unionmutual's exclusive Headlight Club
for 1979.
The fact that only a handful of other agents across the
country were similarly honored makes his accomplish-
ment even more significant.
This gentleman offers you exceptional skill, uncommon
dedication, and an ability to provide solutions to your
financial problems quickly and efficiently.
Unionmutual is proud to recognize his achievements
and is pleased that we are so well represented in Metro-
Detroit.

Auschwitz Site
on Protected List
GENEVA (JTA) — Dr.
Gerhart Riegner, secretary
general of the World Jewish
Congress, has sent a letter
to the director general of the
United Nations Educa-
tional, Scientific and Cul-
tural Organization (UN-
ESCO) expressing its deep
satisfaction and its
wholehearted support for a
proposal submitted by the
government of Poland to in-
clude the former concentra-
tion camp in Auschwitz in
the World Heritage List.
This inclusion would con-
fer upon Auschwitz the na-
tional and international
protection provided under
the Convention for the Pro-
tection of World Cultural
and Natural Heritage.

A Reminder
on Diversity
Editor, The Jewish News:
Heartiest congratula-
tions on your piece, The
Shocking Ruling on Shofar:
The Inexcusable In-
tolerance," in Purely
Commentary." As a liberal,
committed Jew and a Re-
form rabbi, I share with my
Conservative colleagues a
sense of disgust at the re-
cent threats issued by the
offices of the Chief Rabbi-
nate in Jerusalem against
those who would choose to
hear the shofar in a "non-
traditional" (i.e., a non-
Orthodox) synagogue.
It is_ appropriate at this
season for us to recall the
rabbinic interpretation of
the arba minim — the four
species used at Sukkot:
"The fruit of citrus trees,
palm fronds, branches of
leafy trees and willows of
the brook (Leviticus 23:40)"
refer to the Jewish people.
Just as the etrog has flavor
and aroma, so there are
some Jews with both Torah
and good deeds. Just as the
palm frond has flavor but
not aroma, so there are
some Jews with Torah but
not good deeds. Just as the
myrtle has aroma but not
flavor so there are some
Jews with good deeds but
not Torah. Just as the
willow has neither flavor
nor aroma, .so there are
some Jews without Torah or
good _deeds . . . Neverthe-
less, God has bound them
together in one bunch .. .
(Leviticus Rabbah 30:11).
The inclusiveness of the
Sages and their recognition
of the diversity of the
Jewish people is a lesson
which should not be lost for
any of us. Thank you for
teaching it once again.
