Ehrlich Denies
He Will Resign

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Finance Minister Simha
Ehrlich, facing a strong
challenge from within his
own Liberal Party and
mounting discontent over
his stewardship of Israel's
deteriorating economic
situation, .insisted that he
has no intention of resign-'
ing.
Ehrlich's departure from
the Cabinet has been pre-
dicted for some time as the
inflationary spiral worse-
ned and the government
appeared unable to cope
with it. His resignation has
been demanded by members
of his own party, notably
Energy Minister Yitzhak
Modai and former Deputy
Finance Minister Yehezkel
Flomin, a one-time Ehlich
protege.
Ehrlich made his position
clear: "On July 15, I visited
Premier Menahem Begin
and expressed the wish to
resign," he said. "Begin ex-
plained to me that any such
move would entail the res-
ignation of the entire
Cabinet. This is too heavy a
responsibility and since
then I decided to refrain
from doing that" (resigning)
he said.
His remarks confirmed
the view that Begin has
concluded that Ehrlich's
resignation at this time
could topple his government
which is sharply divided in-
ternally and holds a pre-
carious 66 seat majority in
the Knesset. Political ob-
servers noted that if Ehrlich
quit, both the Liberal Party
wing of Likud and the Na-
tional Religious Party
would remand a reshuffling
of the Cabinet.

Holocaust Was
Warning Society
Will Kill Self

ARLINGTON, Va. (JTA)
— One of the nation's lead-
ing authorities on genocide
said that the Nazi death
camps have led to a world
society which "will not raise
a finger to halt" a
Holocaust.
Dr. Henry Feingold, pro-
fessor of history at the
graduate center of New
York's City University and
Baruch College, told 200 so-
cial scientists to heed the
Holocaust as "a last desper-
ate warning that a world
which can consume its own
children is out of control."
Dr. Feingold was the
keynote speaker at the
tow-day National Confer-
ence on Teaching About
Genocide and the' Nazi
Holocaust in Secondary
Schools sponsored by the
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith's Center for
Studies on the Holocaust in
cooperation with the Na-
tional Council for Social
Studies.
