Metropolitan Detroit ORT Groups Host National Leaders at Haber Testimonial World and national ORT officials will join Monday, at the testimonial dinner for Dr. William Haber, in mak- ing the event a dual celebra- tion in tribute to the hon- oree's 80th birthday and the movement's 100th anniver- sary. Assuming global signifi- cance, the event will be ad- dressed by Dr. Abram Sac- har, former president of Brandeis University, who was associated with Dr. -Taber in Hillel Lions and other causes for three decades. The testimonial dinner committee includes: David B. Hermelin and Irving Nusbaum, dinner co- chairmen; Robben Fleming, Gov. William Milliken and Paul Zuckerman, honorary chairmen. Formerly dean bf the Literature, Science and Arts College at the Uni- versity of Michigan, Dr. Haber is a nationally- known economist and labor negotiations arbit- rator. He now serves as adviser to the executive officers at the University of Michigan. First exposed to ORT dur- ing a stint as adviser to Gen. Lucius Clay in post-war Germany, Dr. Haber did much to aid the cause of dis- placed Jews. Upon return- ing to the U.S., Dr. Haber popularized the work of ORT in this country. Dr. Haber served as president of the American ORT Federation from 1950 to 1975 and has served as president of the central board of the World ORT Union since 1955. ORT has honored him with the estab- lishment of a Haber chair at the new ORT School of Engineering in Jerusalem. He has also served as chairman of the National Hillel Commission of Bnai Brith, 1955-1963, and is a member of the national executive committee of the American Jewish Commit- tee and the board of gover- nors of Hebrew University.
