Percy Kaplan, executive CARMI SLOMOVITZ director of the local JNF office, reported that of the 100,000 trees ordered for planting in Israel during the past year, more than 10 percent were purchased by non-Jews. Beth Shalom Campaign Nets $144,000 in Bond Purchases Foreign Language Speakers Sought The foreign language service practicum at Wayne State University is seeking students who wish to earn credit by visiting foreign- born elderly in local nursing homes and conversing with them in their mother tongue. Wayne State University students who can read, write, and speak a foreign language can earn two cre- dits per quarter through articipation in the prac- ticum. Students will be expected to perform a wide range of services: acting as interpre- ter for nursing home and community agency staff, translating documents, writing letters, reading aloud to those with failing eyesight, and generally providing conversation and companionship to persons isolated because of the lan- guage barrier.
