Judge to Rule on Trifa Case
Federal District Judge
Cornelia Kennedy is ex-
pected to rule within the
next 2-3, weeks on several
motions
otions to dismiss
the government's immigra-
tion and naturalization case
against Romanian Ar-
chbishop Valerian Trifa of
Grass Lake, Mich.
Trifa is accused of falsely
answering questions about
his ties to the fascist Roma-
nian Iron Guard when he
immigrated to the U.S. in
the early 1950s and again
when he became a citizen in
1957.
Trifa is accused of being
an Iron guard leader and
fomenting a pogrom in
Bucharest in January 1941.
The defense has asked
Judge Kennedy to dis-
miss the case on the
grounds that the U.S. had
the same information
when it granted Trifa
permission to immigrate
to the U.S. and when he
became a citizen.
Judge 'Kennedy, who was
sworn in as an Appeals
Court judge this week, will
rule on the defense motions.
