The swimsuits were
created by Lea Gottlieb, a
native of Hungary who
came to Israel after World
War II and started a busi-
ness making baby clothes in
her home. In the early
1950s, she began designing
swimsuits and today makes
about 200 styles a year.
Her bathing suits fit
women who wear sizes 8
to 16. Mrs. Gottlieb plans
the fabric designs and
has them executed in
Italy. Every fabric is
made up in a variety of
swimsuits, from maillots
to bikinis.
Her daughter, Miriam
Shir, is head of the Gottex
sales office in New York
City. Cover-ups are in-
cluded in the Gottex line
and come in various de-
signs: stretch shorts, pedal
pushers, blanket-size
scarves, skirts and dresses.
The company is expand-
ing into evening wear as
well. The evening wear is
designed by Mrs. Gottlieb's
younger daughter, Yehudit,
who works with her in Tel
Aviv.

NEW YORK — A Long
Island engineer, who de-
scribes himself as an ad-
viser on American matters
to the Palestine Liberation
Organization, has pleaded
not guilty to the charges of
attempting to smuggle sto-
len communications
equipment to the Middle
East and wire fraud.
The engineer, Paul Aj-
louny, was indicted in Sep-
tember 1978, on one count of
foreign transportation of
stolen property and 136
counts of wire fraud —
meaning 136 telephone
calls he allegedly placed il-
legally through the use of a
so-called blue box, a device
by means of which long dis-
tance calls may be made
without charge and without
record.
The government contends
that some of those calls were
placed to PLO headquarters
in Lebanon.

David Kossoff, actor, ar-
tist and now story teller
brings "A Small Town Is a
World" (St. Martin's Press),
a most superb volume of
short stories to our shelves,
to read, enjoy and re-

by when life in the shtetl
was a vast conglomerate of
people and where events
were a mixture of humor,
happiness and sadness.
Meet Mark the Rabbi of
Klanshtetl and follow him
through his experiences
with the townsfolk — Isaac
the Beggar, Blind-, the
Miser, Schneider the Tailor,
the Rebbetzin Sophie and
many others. Not only are
these short stories humor-

Kossoff Stories Recall the Shtetl

The Arab mayor of Heb-
ron, Fand Kawasmeh, was
in Detroit and Ann Arbor
this week, saying that the
Palestine Liberation
Organization should not
stop its acts of terrorism
against Israel.
Kawasmeh was in the
U.S. to attend the Palestine
Human Rights Conference
in Washington, D.C. last
month. While in Ann Arbor
he met with University of
Michigan President Harold
Shapiro.
from them as Mark the
Rabbi did.
Kossoff's stories are
short, pure and simple, but
if one can think back to
their own experiences in the
shtetl these stories seem to
come to life.
A truly recommended
book for all ages.

More meat weight
for your money
No Back-Bone Portions in Empire's
CHICKEN LEGS
and CHICKEN BREASTS
When cutting plump, juicy, tender chickens for those
chicken parts you want, Empire removes the mostly
unuseable BACK BONE portions.
Therefore, you get more of the delicious useable meat
weight for which you are paying.
But, if you buy other chicken parts which do include
back-bone portions, question how much useable
weight you are getting, and whether you are gettin:
your money's worth.
