Yad Vashem Medal Granted State Jewish History Society
Is Cited by National Unit

Israeli Consul General for the Midwest, Moshe
Gilboa, is shown presenting the Yad Vashem "Medal
of the Just" to Mrs. Helen Chorazyczewski of Ham-
tramck last week. She and her husband, Ignacy, at
right, were honored for saving four Jewish boys from
the Nazis during World War IL Standing next to Mrs.
Chorazyczewski is David Silver, who brought the
Chorazyczewskis' story to the attention of Yad Vas-
hem. In the background are the Chorazyczewskis'
daughter, granddaughter and son, and Rabbi Stanley
Rosenbaum of Cong. Bnai Moshe who gave the in-
vocation at the ceremony.

Park City Council.
Naftaly, 27, was elected
to a two-year term in 1977
as the youngest councilman
in Oak Park's history.
A 25-year resident of Oak
Park, he is a trustee of the
city's employees' retirement
system and a member of the
recreation advisory board.
He is a member of the Oak
Park Kiwanis Club, Oak

The Jewish Historical
Society of Michigan was
selected to receive an award
in the nation's most
prestigious competition for
local history achievement.
The American Associa-
tion for State and Local His-
tory, at its annual meeting
in Tucson, Ariz., named the
Jewish Historical Society
of Michigan a recipient of a
Certificate of Commenda-
tion for its work in collect-
ing, studying and com-
memorating the history of
Jews in Michigan.
The American Associa-
tion for State and Local His-
tory has given awards to
local historians and histori-
cal agencies since 1944. It is
a nonprofit educational
organization with a mem-
bership of more than 6,000
individuals and institutions
working to advance knowl-
edge, understanding, and
appreciation of local history
in the United States and
Canada.

Naftaly is a member of
the executive committee
of the Oakland County
Democratic Party and
served on Congressman
James J. Blanchard's
(D-Pleasant Ridge) com-

SEMTA Park and Ride
shuttle-bus from Oak Park
to Wayne State University
and downtown Detroit.
He has a degree in busi-
ness administration from
WSU with a major in ac-
counting. While at WSU, he
served on the Enrollment
Energy Crisis Committee
with university officials.

Most of the senior citizens
who took part as auditors in
courses at Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity last year, have re-
registered for another
year's studies.
The program, which is
supported by the Brookdale
Foundation of New York, is
the first of its kind at an Is-
raeli university to provide
senior citizens with the
opportunity to participate
in regular academic courses
and to broaden their cul-
tural and intellectual hori-
zons.
Bar-Ilan is also planning
a revolutionary program for
regular students to assist
senior citizens who wish to
advance educationally and
culturally. Students will
work with senior citizens in
their homes on a one-to-one
or one-to-two basis.
