NY's Kosher Meat Prices Up

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Kosher meat prices in New
York City have zoomed an
average 58 percent since
1976, according to a survey
by the Metropolitan New
York Coordinating Council
on Jewish Poverty.
The coordinating council
reported that the price of
kosher chicken had risen
from 93 cents a pound to
$1.18, kosher chuck is up
from $1.44 a pound to $2.36
and ground chuck is now
$2.14 a pound, compared
with an average $1.17 a
pound in 1976.
The council said Jewish
consumers in the area now
pay nearly 40 percent more
on the average for kosher
meat than the prices for
