Opens New Programs NEW YORK — Yeshiva University has opened its 94th year with an enroll- ment of some 7,000 men and women at its four campuses in Manhattan and the Bronx in New York City, and at its affiliated centers in Israel and Los Angeles. A new four-year program in nursing has begun at Stern College for Women. Approved by the New York State Board of Regents dur- ing the summer, the pro- gram has been arranged in cooperation with Beth Is- rael Medical Center, which will be the major clinical agency. At Stern and at Yeshiva -.. College, the men's under- graduate division, a new set of accounting courses has been introduced to strengthen the new pre- CPA program. Some 50 new under- graduate courses are being introduced this year, in political science, art, litera- ture, sciences and Jewish studies. A new, experimen- tal "interscience" course for non-science majors at Yeshiva College, which cuts across a number of disci- plines, has been totally re- vised for the academic year, and $30,000 worth of re- search equipment has been purchased to improve both faculty research and labora- tory teaching. Attorney Fights Monday Case i A Jewish attorney is try- ing to have a scheduled case in Plymouth District Court postponed from being heard n Yom Kippur. Troy attorney Sandor elman said he was -un- aware Oct. 1 was Yom Kip- pur when the case was scheduled back in August. After realizing his mistake, Gelman asked the judge to postpone the case. Plymouth Judge Dunbar Davis said Gelman should assign the case to another attorney and has refused, as The Jewish News went to press, to postpone the case. The court has known about the problem for a month. Davis switched dockets with another Plymouth judge after Gelman accused him of anti-Semitism, but the case was still scheduled to be heard on Yom Kippur. Israelis, Envoys of PLO Confer on Palestinians at Rome Parley ROME (JTA) — A two- day conference on the Pales- tinian issue which will in- volve Israelis and Palestine Liberation Organization representatives was scheduled to take place here this week. The international confer- ence, which was to include representatives from the West and East European nations that participated in the Helsinki human rights conference, was sponsored by the Italian Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
