Sister Rose's presenta- tion, which covered Israel's challenge to the Christian and reactions to the Holocaust along with her views on the peace process, was sponsored by the Israel Information and Resource Center and the Detroit Round Table of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. "It is important that we attempt to solve these from a realistic standpoint." Sister Rose noted that the Vatican was among the first powers to recognize the treaty. "This endorsement is politically significant be- cause many European gov- ernments have shied away from giving official or public support to the peace pact since they are all dependent on Arab oil." Sister Rose, who is the program co-ordinator of Judeo-Christian Studies at Seton Hall University, talked proudly of the uni- versity's study-tours to Is- rael, of which she was direc- tor. The first tour of Israel took place following the Yom Kippur War in 1973. "That experience made me realize the tragedy and in- credible history of the Jewish people," Sister Rose said. Sister Rose brought the audience of more than 100 (in which there was a large number of gentiles as well as Jews) to their feet near the end of her lecture with a pledge for strong Catholic support for the current state of Jerusalem. We strongly support the state of Jerusalem under its present jurisdiction. We are opposed to any other form of control. Jews have always lived in Jerusalem, it is their spiritual home," she said. Israeli singing and folkdancing followed Sister Rose's lecture. The entertainment was pro- vided by vocalists Janet Pont and Geri Levi and dan- cers Uri Segal and Rachel Jacobs. The program was co-ordinated by Shelley Jackier of the Information and Resource Center.
