Jewish Groups
Assail NCC

NEW YORK — Follow-
ing is a joint statement re-
leased by the American
Jewish Committee, the
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith and the
Synagogue Council of
America; including the
Interreligious Affairs De-
partment of the Union of
American Heberw Congre-
gations, in response to the
position of the National
Council of Churches on
A merican policy concerning
PLO:
We regret that the
representatives of Ameri-
ca's largest grouping of Pro-
testant and Orthodox
Churches have failed to face
the moral and religious
issue underlying America's
no-talk policy with the ter-
rorist Palestine Liberation
Organization.
"The executive com-
mittee oT the National
Council of Churches at its
meeting of Sept. 7, 1979,
called on 'the U.S. and Is-
rael to desist from their
no-talk policy with the
PLO,' without demand-
ing that, as a precondi-
tion, the PLO abandon its
Covenant which specifi-
cally calls for the de-
struction of Israel. In
carrying out its goals, the
PLO resorts to self-
confessed acts of ter-
rorism against innocent
civilians throughout the
world.
The failure of the execu-
tive committee of the NCC
to demand the cessation of
these acts and the rejection
of the notorious PLO Cove-
nant is to avoid the moral
issue that religious organ-
izations must not evade."

No kidding! That's the Grand Prize in the
new instant lottery game, Instant 3.
You could win it. Or you could win up to .
five thousand dollars instantly.
And the Joker's wild, so when he shows up
on a ticket, he might help you win. And
you might smile. . .all the way to the bank.

Pound Plummets
to IL 28.63 to $1

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Israel Pound continued
its rapid decline relative to
the U.S. dollar this week,
precipitating a rush on
banks to purchase dollars
and a trend away from gov-
ernment bonds linked to the
cost-of-living index.
As of midnight Sunday
the Poound stood at IL 28.63
- $1, an overnight drop of 20
Agorot. One hundred
Agorot equal one Pound.
The Pound was devalued
by 1.25 percent to the Swiss
franc and by one percent to
the West German mark.
Public fears that the gov-
ernment will soon tighten
foreign currency controls
seen responsible for the
1 _ _Lie buying of dollars.
Under present regula-
tions, every citizen may
purchase up to $3,000 but
recent reports about Israel's
worsening balancy of pay-
ments situation have given
rise to rumors that the gov-
ernment sooner or later will
have to reduce the foreign
currency supply.
Both the Treasury and
the Bank of Israel denied
that any such move is in the
making.

He that walks with wise
men shall be wise; but the
companion of fools shall
smart for it.
