THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Robert Lipson, of Bnai Brith PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — Robert Lipson, a member of the -professional staff of Bnai Brith, who dedicated his adult life to local and Jewish community service, died Sept. 11 in Nahariya, Israel, at age 64. Mr. Lipson was attending the international Bnai Brith seminar in Israel. His remains were flown to his home community in Cherry N.J., for burial. r. Lipson was executive airector of Bnai Brith Dis- trict 3 serving more than 35,000 members in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and West Vir- ginia. He was the recipient of the 1977 Israel Award "for his advancement of creative Jewish life and his dedication to the cause of Is- rael." He was a member of the board of governors of District 3 and a former Bnai Brith regional di- rector and insurance di- rector. Mr. Lipson was also a past president of the Bnai Brith Hillside Lodge and a former president of the Northern New Jersey Council of Bnai Brith. He was a district life delegate and Youth Organ- ization commissioner of Bnai Brith International. He received the 1979 Gol- den Key Award of the Bnai Brith Youth Organization. Dr. 1.S. Katzman Dr. I.S. Katzman, former chief of staff Deaconess Hospital, died Sept. 15 at age 79. A Michigan native, Dr. Katzman held the post of chief of staff at Deaconess Hospital from 1954 to 1955. He was a physician with offices in the Fisher Build- ing, and was practicing fam- ily medicine until his death. Dr. Katzman was graduated from the Detroit College of Medicine in 1925. He Was a member of the American, Michigan and Wayne County Medical Societies; the Masons and Knollwood Country Club. He leaves his wife, Helen; two sons, Dr. Harold and Gerald Curtis; a sister, Mrs. Alex (Celia) Caplan of Fre- port, N.Y.; and three granddaughters.
