Ernest Lederman Ernest Lederman, who through the offices of the Jewish Family Services helped to resettle Russian Jews coming to Detroit, died Sept. 7 at age 39. Born in Russia, Mr. Lederman lived in Poland for many years and came to the U.S. in 1970. He worked in New York for four years at a variety of social service agencies and came to De- troit in 1974 to work for JFS. An accomplished chess player who spoke three lan- guages, Russian, Polish and Yiddish, Mr. Lederman held a degree in interna- tional law from the Univer- sity of Warsaw. He resided at 25350 Greenfield, Oak Park. Mr. Lederman is survived by a sister, Mrs. Bronia Sokolov of Stockholm, Swe- den. Correction In the obituary for Alice Salzberg which appeared in the Sept. 7 Jewish News, the listing of survivors was incorrect. Mrs. Salzberg leaves her husband, Max; four nephews and two nieces. Emanu-El Founder Dies Rabbi Frank F. Rosent- hal, founding rabbi of Tern- ple Emanu-El, died Aug. 19 at age 68. Born in Beuthen, Ger- many, Rabbi Rosenthal earned a doctorate in 1938 and did post-graduate work at the Sorbonne in Paris, the University of Prague and the Papal Library in Ror- nigrated to the U.S. in 1940 and held pulpits in North Carolina prior to coming to Michigan. Tem- ple Emanu-El was founded in 1953. In the late 1940s, Rabbi Rosenthal held the pulpit of the temple in Jackson, Mich. For the last 23 years, '- abbi Rosenthal was the /iritual leader of Tem- ple Anshe Sholom in Il- linois. In 1966 he was invited by the German government for an extended lecture tour in that country. West Ger- many honored Rabbi Ro- senthal in 1976 for his ac- tivities opposing Hitler." He is survived by his wife, Harriet; and two daughters, Hannah Phelps and De- borah Zemel.
