TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Ag-
riculture Minister Ariel
Sharon recently told report-
ers that Israel has 26 set-
tlements and 1,800 Jewish
residents in the West Bank.
He said plans are for 50 set-
tlements and 3,000 Jewish
families.
Sharon rejected the
argument that Jews would
become a minority in Israel
if the West Bank were an-
nexed. He said since World
War I, the Jewish popula-
tion has climbed higher
than the Arab population
despite the higher Arab
birth rate.
He predicted that there
would be five million Jews
in Israel by the year 2000.
