Communal Praise for Mrs. Schiller

as Efforts Recalled on Her 80th
Communal encomia is
being expressed today to
Rose Schiller, a leader in
many levels of Hadassah ac-
tivities, who is celebrating
her 80th birthday.
Among her Hadassah
positions, Mrs. Schiller is a
past president of the Cen-
tral States Region; a former
member of the national
board; is membership reten-
tion chairman of the
Heights . Group; co-
chairman of foundation
gifts, wills and bequests for
Detroit Chapter; and Is-
_ J. Bond chairman for the
Michigan Region of Hadas-
sah. Of her nine trips to Is-
rael, five were spent as a
Hadassah tour leader.
Her Hadassah roles also
included the chairmanship
of ways and means for the
Michigan Region and ad-
viser to the business and
professional group.
tier activities include a
long association with
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Mrs. Schiller chaired the
sisterhood's first Torah
Scholarship luncheon._
As chairman of volunteer
placement for the Office of
Civilian Defense, she was
named "Volunteer of the
Year for the City of De-
troit," and was awarded the
Red Feather Award for
Community Service. She
also established the war ef-
forts board for the League of
Jewish Women's Organiza-
tions.
She is the founder and
honorary president of De-
troit League, Children's
Asthma Research Institute
and Hospital (CARIH).
Mrs. Schiller has been
active in efforts on behalf of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion and is a member of its

of the board of the Midrasha
— College of Jewish
Studies, where she insti-
tuted the Mina and Ted
Bargman lecture series.
She took the responsi-
bility for setting up the
Israel exhibit in the Hall
of Nations at the Detroit
International Institute.
At the Jewish Commu-
nity Center, Mrs. Schiller
inaugurated and co-
chaired the program
planners institute and
served on the steering
committee of the Center
Symphony Orchestra.
The wife of the late Carl
Schiller, Mrs. Schiller has
two children, Donald and
Mrs. Henry (Eileen) Berris,
who will tender gatherings
in her honor, and 11
grandchildren.
Several community hon-
ors were bestowed on Mrs.
Schiller in honor of the oc-
casion and on Wednesday,
Mrs. Schiller will be hon-
ored by the Detroit League,
CARIH, at a luncheon a(
which the group will pro-
claim the day Rose Schiller
Day.
After a separation of 63
years, David Ernst of
Herzliya, Israel, has been
reunited with his cousins,
Mrs. Milton (Evelyn)
Weiss of Southfield and
Mrs. Abe (Edna) Nemeth
of Detroit. Ernst, who with
his wife, Miriam, was hon-
ored at a family gathering,
will be guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Weiss until October.
The cousins were separated
by the circumstances of war.
They last saw each other
during World War I in Hun-
gary.

degree in dental hygiene.
Her fiance was graduated
from Michigan State Uni-
versity with a BA degree in
accounting.
