ZOD's Balfour Concert Program
Combines Jewish Music, Humor

A departure from prev-
ious programming for Bal-
four Concerts of the Zionist
Organization of Detroit was
announced by Sidney Sil-
verman, ZOD president.
While the program will
continue to emphasize
music, it will be linked with
humor and interpretation of
wit as evidenced in the
Jewish experience, Silver-
man said.

ally, will be held Sunday,
Oct. 21, at Ford Au-
ditorium. It will feature
singer Paul Zim and
humorist Sy Kleinman.
Zim, according to a re-
cent review, "has no dif-
ficulty tackling any voice
role for he has had canto-
rial, operatic and popu-
lar training."
Zim is a graduate of the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary Cantorial College. He
studied under the late
Moshe Koussevitzky and
succeeded him as cantor at
Temple Beth El in Brooklyn
at the age of 21.
His infectious portrayal
of "revye" from "Fiddler on
the Roof' and his rendition
of "My Way" usually high-
light Zim's concerts.
Kleinman, who is primar-
ily a corporate lawyer in
New York and a professor at
Columbia University Law
School, still manages nearly

Inn.
The program is the first of
a series to benefit area
charities. The program will
feature cocktails, dinner
and a fashion show.

Aiding Airfields

WASHINGTON — Col.
Irving Kett (U.S. Army Re-
serve) of Los Angeles, com-
mander of Post 118, Jewish
War Veterans, is playing a
major role in the construc-
tion of two Israeli Air Force
airfields that are part of the
Camp David accords. As
assistant project manager of
the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers' Near East Proj-
ect Office, Kett has a major
responsibility in turning
what, under normal cir-
cumstances, would be a
five-year project into a 30-
month reality.
Selected for the job be-
cause of his professional
credentials as an engineer,
and his understanding of Is-
raeli customs and Hebrew,
Kett was ordered to active
duty in June. A professor of
engineering at California
State University in Los
Angeles, Kett holds a docto-
rate of science degree in
engineering.
From 1967-1971, Kett
served as chief 'design
engineer of the Division of
Highways for the Israeli
Department of Public
Works.
