of allergies and other
ailments or dietary laws.
Never having to say
you're sorry may be a
cliche but saying it too
often is just as bad.
" You can't go home a-
gain' is another cliche. But
munching a Greene's ham-
burger with onions at the
Seven Mile-Schaefer em-
porium is like going home to
where many suburbanites
lived: People used to take
their kids to Greene's for
lunch or a quickie dinner
and they've never forgotten
it. Mother's cooking was
never as satisfying as
Greene's.
The kids have grown up,
but discovering the inimit-
able hamburger again drew
more rave notices than the
finest gourmet dining spot.
And you c,an't beat the
prices. It must have been
the kids who coined the
phrase, 'You can't eat at-
mosphere, it's the food that
counts.'
"For the more sophisti-
cated diner, I recommend
tlae Cabriolet 100, scallops
in a spicy sauce, at the Ex-
calibur on 12 Mile and
Northwestern. Another
treat is Frank Sinatra's
Rolls Royce of Ribs, Miami
embers in a slab. When we
were there, the soup of the
day was cheese and beer
topped with pop corn. It

tasted better than it sounds.
If you have a hanker-
ing for Greek food, Hellas
in Greektown is a safe bet
from the salad to the
Mousaka to the creamy
rice pudding and Bak-
lava. There's a good rea-
son customers wait in a
line which forms outside
the restaurant and they
keep coming back for
more.
"Another good brunching
spot is the Midtown Cafe in
Birmingham which serves
music with crepes or
omelettes on Sunday morn-
ings. For dinner at the Mid-
town, I recommend the
trout which is fresh and
broiled to perfection.
"Apropos of nothing in
particular, would you be-
lieve Healthy Jones and
Tony's Top of the Cone in
Southfield are asking for
.liquor licenses? I guess it's
OK if you like Granola and
bean sprouts with your
Bloody Marys or a pistachio
ice cream sundae with your
Martini. The licenses have
yet to be approved or turned
down by the city fathers and
mothers."
