Dropsie U. Names President
PHILADELPHIA — Dr.
Joseph Rappaport, for the
past 20 months senior assis-
tant to New York's deputy
mayor for policy, has as-
sumed his duties as fifth
president of Dropsie Uni-
versity in Philadelphia.
According to William B.
Thomas (Englewood, N.J.),
chairman of the board of
governors of Dropsie, "Until
1976, Dropsie's presidents
were chosen for their out-
standing scholarly skills in
the specific subject areas
with which Dropsie is con-
cerned, principally biblical
and post-biblical literature
and institutions, Hebrew,
Arabic, ancient languages
and cultures, Middle East-
ern studies, comparative
religion and philosophy.
"Increasingly complex
and time-consuming ad-
ministrative and financial
matters confronting most
institutional executives
convinced us that in order
for top-quality research
scholarship and teaching to
continue and to flourish,
universities need
presidents who can mobilize
ever greater support from
ever more sectors through-
out the country."
Dr. Rappaport, after
having been a lecturer in
history at Brooklyn Col-
lege in New York re-
ceived his PhD in Ameri-
can history at Columbia
University in 1951. He

"RAPE OF THE HONEY"
Did the U.S. Government
encourage the Panamaians
to confiscate the American
Tax payers boats in order to
placate them before the
Canal was turned over to
them?
The book, written by Jean
Ragsdale and Virginia Smith,
"The Rape of the Honey"
was a commercial fishing
boat owned by Jean
Ragsdale. The boat was con-
fiscated on the Panama
Canal, as were many other
American boats. The ro-
mance part of the book is
entirely fictitious. The part
about the boat is very true
and may be documented.
