You know, we flatter ourselve's that this is the 20th Century, an age of pro- gress and moral superiority. It's hard for somebody in this century to admit that this was done not just in this century, but by educated and civilized people. "For 20 years, no one wanted to hear abotit it, and now for the last decade or two there's been a growing interest. The TV series was really the foam, the top layer of that interest. A host of things have happened to spread this consciousness, but for the Holocaust to be understood will take a much broader consciousness." Supplementing the re- marks of Dr. Greenberg, whose message inspired generous gifts from the 80 members of the Holocaust Center committee, Dorfman, speaking for the survivors, said: "By coming tonight you are setting an example. Your participation will show the rest of the com- munity that we are back- ing up our words with ac- tion. Originally. instituted by Shaarit Haplaytah, the organization of survivors from Nazism, the dedication to the idea drew community-wide support when the boards of the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Welfare Federation moved to coop- erate in making the project a reality. The Holocaust Memoria Center endowment funds will be under the supervi- sion of the United Jewish Charities, the senior agency of the Jewish Welfare Fed- eration. Sam Hechtman, chair- man of the memorial cen- ter's building committee, announced there will be no delays in planning construction work and the committee will meet with architects in the coming few days for planning activities. Rabbi Charles Rosenzveig, director of the Holocaust Memorial Cen- ter, gave the background of the project. Other partici- pants were: Louis Berry, Phillip Stollman, Gustav Berenholz and David Hermelin. George Zeltzer, Federation president, also addressed the gathering. Yadin Walks Out of Cabinet Session Over Settlements JERUSALEM (JTA) — Deputy Premier Yigael Yadin walked out of the Cabinet meeting Sunday when his colleagues refused to reconsider a decision by the ministerial committee on - settlements, while he was in the U.S., to establish four new Jewish settle- ments in the West Bank. Yadin, who is a member of the committee, returned later after an appeal by Premier Menahem Begin. However, the Cabinet's ac- tion on the decision was postponed. Yadin's Democratic Party feels that no new settle- ments should be established while- the peace negotia- tions are in process. He re- portedly charged that the ministerial committee's de- cision violated an earlier - decision that for the present the government would only thicken existing settle- ments. Yadin said Sunday that if tinue his appeal at the next Cabinet meeting. Agricul- ture Minister Ariel Sharor head of the ministeriA committee, said that prep- arations for the four settle- dients would also continue. Yadin said today that if the matter is not resolved to his satisfaction "I will understand the implica- tions of the situation."
