Sunday Hours
Beginning Sunday, the
Jewish National Fund
office, located at 27308
Southfield, will again be
open on Sundays from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Southfield office
takes orders and presents
certificates for trees planted
in Israel.
The JNF office is open
Monday through Thursday,
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9
a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays,
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
John H. French, chair-
man of Northern States
Bancorporation, will be the
recipient of the Distin-
guished Service Award, the
state of Israel's highest civi-
lian award at a tribute
dinner on behalf of the State
of Israel Bonds' Economic
Development for Peace
Loan Oct. 24 at Roma's of
Bloomfield, it was an-
nounced by David B.
Hermelin, general chair-
man of the Greater Michi-
gan Committee for State of
Israel Bonds.
The award is presented
"in recognition of French's
achievement, as a distin-
guished banker, communal
leader and humanitarian,
in creating better under-
standing among all men; for
encouraging the
strengthening of free
enterprise in all free coun-
tries of the world, and for
outstanding support of Is-
rael's economic develop-
ment for peace as a sister
democracy."
French attended Detroit
University School and
Swarthmore Preparatory
School in Swarthmore, Pa.
He received a Bachelor of
Arts degree from Brown
University in 1933 and took
graduate courses in busi-
ness administration at Bab-
son College.
He was employed by
the French Mortgage and
Bond Co. from 1933 to
1942. From 1942 to 1946
he served in the United
States Army, attaining
the rank of major. In 1946
he returned to French
Mortgage and Bond Co.
as treasurer and as direc-
tor. He was named vice
president in 1949 and be-
came chairman and
president in 1952.
French became a vice
president of City' National

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
(Rose) Simons, former De-
troiters of Tucson, Ariz.,
will be honored Saturday at
a dinner at Fox and Hounds
in celebration of their 50th
wedding anniversary which
will be marked officially
Sunday.
The party will be given by
their children, Sue Smith
and Dr. and Mrs. Sheldon
(Ethel) Simons.
The party will also celeb-
rate Dr. Simons' birthday.
Relatives from California
will be on hand for the cele-
bration.
The senior Simons is a
member of the TucSon
Jewish War Veterans and
has held many high offices
in that organization. Mrs.
Simons is active in Hadas-
sah, Pioneer Women and
her synagogue sisterhood.

He retired from this posi-
