The program, spearheaded in 1965 by the late Richard Mitchell, is marking its Bar Mitzva year. Upon developing the program, Mr. Mitchell em- phasized the importance of a Jewish education for hear- ing impaired and deaf Jewish children. "It's important for hear- ing children to learn Judaism, but it's just as im- portant for deaf students to learn their heritage, to use their speech and lip- reading, to integrate in Jewish academics with hearing peers, to socialize with Jewish friends, to identify oneself as Jewish, to participate with family in the home for Shabes and holidays, to pray together in the synagogue and to teach hearing peers how to speak Fall Registration to Open at Center Registration for fall classes at the Jewish Com- munity Center will take place 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sept. 5 in the main Center complex.
